Athletics: DHS Lindo Mateyisi Jumps into the Records

Durban High School athlete, Lindo Mateyisi recently participated in the Grey College invitational athletics meeting in Bloemfontein with four of his team mates and it was a meeting that saw the Durbanite jumping into the record books.

Mateyesi1This meeting is amongst the biggest school athletics meetings in the country and DHS performed at their best once again, achieving top class results.


Anthony Mwanga received silver for High Jump, gold for Long Jump and Triple Jump and set a new school record for Triple Jump in the U15 age group. Nhlakanipho Zulu won gold for the 800m in the U16 age group. Justin Donkin came 7th for Javelin in the U16 age group and Ntandazo Mtshengu won bronze for long jump and gold for high jump in the Open age group.

DHS are especially commending of Lindo Mateyisi who won gold for Triple jump and set a new school and meeting record in a distance of 15, 38m in the Open age group. This was recorded as the longest jump in the country in his age group and he was awarded Best Performance in the country in the Open age group as well as the title of Victor Ludorum. 

Next season promises to be a big one for Lindo and we watch in great anticipation to see how far this star athlete can go!
