Cricket: The SA Schools Top 45 Rankings

Wynberg produced their finest match of the season when they took on the powerful Rondebosch side and with the way Rondebosch have been playing recently they were the clear favourites going into this one.

rankings 2014 copyHowever the Wynberg top order set about building up a strong score with Tyla Sylvester playing an attractive 79 which included 12 boundaries and he was well supported by the opener Addinal who notched up a half century to take Wynberg to 265/8. Rondebosch would have expect to reach that score but for once their two run machines Matt Christensen and Murray Commins fell cheaply and it was left to the middle order to try salvage some pride.

Mika Ekstrom was superb however for Wynberg with some skilful bowling which stunted the Rondebosch progress as he went on the claim five wickets for 43 runs and ultimately put to bed any chances that Bosch may have had of victory. With Tayo Walbrugh and Muzammil Sheik providing the only real substance to the innings, Rondebosch were finally all out for 170 runs, 95 runs short of their target.

The win helps Wynberg move into the Top 10 where Waterkloof still reign supreme as they have now gone eight matches without losing. Neels de Villiers’ charges are in a powerful position at this stage of the season which saw them win three matches in the past week including a seven wicket win over Affies. The Waterkloof run maker Janneman Malan scored three half centuries in the week including two not outs (91*, 60* and 87) and certainly is a find for the future.

Hudson Park still hold their own in the top 10 with a couple of wins in the week including a one sided victory over Dale College and Kearsney College lifted their game to record a solid win over Glenwood who were without the services of their captain Andile Phehlukwayo who is on duty with the SA U19 side.
