Cricket: Graeme College Produce Historically Devastating Bowling Display

Perfect days on the cricket field are rare especially in school cricket where records tend to stand for decades without being challenged.

The history books of Graeme College however were re-written this past weekend when their two opening bowlers put in a performance that saw the opposition bundled out for a mere 25 runs.

With both Graeme and Muir showing good form recently many believed, including the two eager teams, that any victory was going to be a hard fought for one. At the end Muir lost in all departments except the toss which they won and sent in Graeme to bat.

The two openers notched up a 132 run partnership with Mark Amm finishing on 62 runs and Romario Fritz going on to score a mammoth 152 runs after batting wonderfully in a flawless 4 hour innings. Fritz faced 196 balls which including despatching 9 of them for four and 8 of them over the rope for six!

Setting Muir 319 runs for victory it looked like this would be a long day in the office for Muir who needed to chase down the total at nearly five runs an over.

However Muir College were never allowed to settle as the Graeme speedsters, Siphesihle Madlongolwana and Sihle Mginywa set about dismantling the Muir batting lineout in devastating fashion. Madlongolwana finished with 5/11 and his partner, Mginywa 5/14 to have Muir rolled over for just 25 runs in 12 overs!

Add to those performances the 5 catches taken by Chris Gleaves behind the stumps and we have one of the most complete performances by a Graeme College team in history, who surpassed their 1986 performance against Union High who that shot out for 28 runs.

Graeme won the match by 292 runs
