Cricket: 9 Wickets and 197 not out!

Ever heard of the cricketer named Dayyaan Galiem? Perhaps not but pencil in that name because there is every chance that the young Capetonian will be the next big thing to come out of Rondebosch Boy’s High.

Dayyaan, who has only just turned 15 years old, put together one of the most dramatic bowling displays that has been witnessed in school cricket on the weekend. But wait that is not all! He then picked up a cricket bat and proceeded to hammer his way close to a double ton!

On Saturday, Dayyaan ripped through the DF Malan High’s batting line-upcausing the hapless batters to look totally bemused as the wickets tumbled. He only required a mere seven overs to take a record nine wickets and only concede a miserly one run.

It was an astonishing display especially as there were no hat-tricks or wickets off consecutive balls. Galiem: 7 overs – 9 wickets – 1 run .

DF Malan somehow managed to scramble their way to 18 runs all out a total that was easily passed by the Rondebosch batters.

The two teams with time on their hands agreed to play a T20 match and Dayyaan proceeded to thump his way to 196 not out off a paltry 76 balls.

Rob Dalrymple, the Rondebosch coach, confirmed that Galiem’s performance was “the best in recorded history at the school.”

At the age of 15, he has already played for the WP U19 team which saw him strike 102 not out. So remember the name Dayyaan Galiem, no batter or bowler is safe!
