Cricket: Mika The Record Breaker

Wynberg Boys Junior School’s stand-out cricketer Mika Ekström is setting the record books alight as he continues to impress at U13 level.

In a match played against Sweet Valley on Saturday 15th October he scored his second century of the season and his third for the school in amassing 129 runs. During the elegant and powerful innings he reached his 1000th run of the 2011 season for the team and stands on a total of 1093 runs so far with six games remaining. This is a feat that has never before been achieved at Wynberg Boys Junior School. The previous record stood at 870 runs. His immense contribution on the day did not end there as he took the first five Sweet Valley wickets to fall for a measly six runs.

Mika has played for the Wynberg U13A side as an opening batsman and an opening bowler for the past two seasons and captains the side this year. He has played a total of 51 games for the Junior School’s 1st XI.

Mika will play for WP at the U13 Inter-Provincial tournament that takes place in East London during December and has been awarded the Allan Lamb Cricket Scholarship at Wynberg Boys High School from 2012.
