Golf: Nikhil Gopal from Saints Selected for SA Schools

The Grade 9 St Charles College student has been selected for the SA Schools team after a successful golf tour after taking part in the SA High Schools Inter Provincial Tournament.

The golfing event took place at Wingate Park Country Club where Nikhil had scores of 76, 74, 72 and 69 throughout the four days.    

Nikhil finished 4th overall which allows him to now play against the SA Universities Team in the near future. This event will take place in Pretoria and Nikhil will be aiming to continue his good run of form.

On the weekend of the 8th and 9th October, Nikhil also won the Maritzburg Closed golf event. He played 18 holes at Victoria Country Club and 18 holes at Maritzburg Golf Club which saw him finish with scores of 72 and 74 respectively. This allowed Nikhil to finish first, 2 shots ahead of second place.

This great achievement is the latest is an ever growing list which started when he was only 7 years old when he won his first golf trophy. At the age of 12 Gopal was representing the KwaZulu-Natal team where he finished 16th in the SA Champs. In 2014 he became the youngest. golfer to win the club championships (B Division) at Victoria Country Club.

Nikhil’s game continued to improve and he soon became a single-figure handicap.

Nikhil’s hard work is paying off and we wish Nikhil all the best and he endeavours to constantly improve on his game. Well done Nikhil!
