With the 2018 hockey season well on the way for many of the school teams here is a quick look at which teams have already shown a bit of form in these early stages.

It is obviously very early in the 2018 season with many teams either yet to play their first match or with only a couple of matches under the belt.

Log leaders Rondebosch, perhaps feeling the effects of a long season battled to gain the ascendancy over Bishops last week and were forced to accept their second defeat of the season both courtesy of their neighbours Bishops.

Maritzburg College lost out on an opportunity to close the gap on Rondebosch and try one last attempt at snatching the No.1 position in the country when their match against KES was cancelled.

It has been a long season for the leaders of this week’s Belgotex Top 80 Rankings, Oranje Meisies, a season which has seen them win virtually every tournament that was on offer and deservedly they will end up as the top team in 2017.

After several weeks off, the No.1 ranked team on this week’s Belgotex Sports Rankings, Rondebosch got the second half of their season underway with two victories which has helped to consolidate their position with fast chasing Maritzburg College team now within touching distance.

The long awaited FNB Financial Wellness Super 12 Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies took place last week with the top teams from all around South Africa taking part in what proved to be a massively successful event.

Hockey 5’s is a new international hockey format that was introduced by the FIH (Federation of International Hockey) to grow the excitement and exposure of the sport by offering a fast-paced, high-intensity equivalent of the game.

There is not much change on this week’s Girls Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings with the top 10 virtually unchanged as we wait with great anticipation for the big show down at the Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament.

A crushing win by Maritzburg College over Affies helped to close the gap on the leading team in the country, Rondebosch, but it could well be a case of too little too late for the Pietermaritzburg team who might have to make peace with the No.2 spot this season.

Hockey: Northwood Knight- Shaun Baker

AT Northwood, a boy ascends from being a squire to the ultimate accolade, a Northwood Knight – a proud member of the Durban North schools’ community of Old Boys.

A very stable rankings table for this week on the Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings for Girls as the leading teams start to prepare for the big Super 12 Tournament later in the season.

After a run of 19 straight wins Rondebosch finally succumbed to their first defeat of the season when they fell on the wrong side of a 1-0 result in their encounter with a motivated Bishops outfit.

Wins for all the leading teams has resulted in a virtually unchanged top half of the table with Rondebosch still out in front of this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings.

St Stithians after what has been an impressive season so far finally climb into the top five leading teams on this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings after clinching some good results which included holding St.Mary’s Waverley to a 1-1 draw.

This Week’s Belgotex Sports Girls Rankings is little changed amongst the leading teams from last week although St.Stithians have inched closer to a top five entry after completing a hard earned win over St.Andrews Girls.

It continues to be one way traffic for Rondebosch who once again added another scalp to this season’s haul as their unbeaten run stretches to record proportions and they remain the leading team on this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings.

The qualification cut off for this year’s FNB Private Wealth Super 12 Hockey Tournament hosted by Meisieskool Oranje has finally come after a plethora of results have flooded in during the past few weeks.

It’s tight at the top of this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings with the top six teams all recording wins last week which all makes for a very congested top end of the table.

This is how the Belgotex Top 70 Rankings are looking like at this stage of the season with Oranje Meisies firmly entrenched at the top of the ladder.

There is just one more week left for the leading teams in the country to qualify for the prestigious Super 12 Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies and with plenty of results flooding in we are looking at a very stable Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings for this week.

Rondebosch continue to notch up the wins as they progress through 2017 unbeaten so far and head this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings.

We have a fairly stable top 10 at the moment on this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings as the teams pull out all the stops to try and qualify for the Oranje Meisies Super 12 Tournament.

Rondebosch stretched their unbeaten run to 15 matches this season and move to the top of the Belgotex Sports Rankings for this week.

With only week’s remaining for teams to qualify for the Super 12 Tournament hosted by Oranje Meisies there has been plenty of results pouring in which has resulted in some interesting movement on this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings.
