Westville suffered their first defeat of the season when they took on a motivated Jeppe side in a tightly contested scrap. This has resulted in the two leaders, Rondebosch and Maritzburg College opening up some daylight on the chasing pack in this week’s Belgotex Sports Top 70 Rankings.

As you are well aware of, Meisieskool Oranje hosts the yearly prestigious annual Super 12 under 18 Girls Hockey Tournament.

Oranje Meisies rose to the occasion once again at the All Girls Tournament last week where they successfully defended their title for the fifth year in a row. In so doing Oranje edge out St. Mary’s Waverley to occupy the No.1 spot on this week’s Belgotex Sports Rankings.

Maritzburg College, the perennial powerhouse of schools hockey enters the Belgotex Top 70 Rankings for the first time this year and immediately put pressure on the leading teams.

Oranje Meisies have moved within a whisker of recapturing the No.1 spot on the Belgotex Sports Rankings for this week where we still find St.Mary’s Waverley hanging on to the leading position.

After the dust has settled following the Easter weekend where many of the leading teams played matches, we have a tightly compacted top 15 which augers well for the standard of hockey that has been played.

Rondebosch hit the top of the Belgotex Sports Top 50 Rankings for this week after a stunning start to the season which has seen them complete 11 matches without tasting defeat yet.

Eunice enjoy their first visit to the top spot on this week’s Belgotex Girls Rankings although it is still very early days in the 2017 season.

It’s Jeppe Boys who have thrown down the gauntlet to the teams in South Africa as they occupy the top spot in the first publishing of the Belgotex Top 40 Rankings for 2017.

The season opener for College was against Grey College from Bloemfontein. It was an unusually balmy morning on the Pape’s Astro with heavy clouds in the sky and a very wet turf following an eve of heavy rain.

Hockey: The Boland Success Story

IT is remarkable how a relatively small group of people in a geographic region can make such an “outsize” impact on the national scene.

Hilton College in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, recently installed a second GreenFields artificial hockey turf from Belgotex Floors in April 2016, ahead of the winter hockey season.

After a somewhat shaky start to their 2016 season which saw them tasting defeat twice, Maritzburg College got into their traditional stride and started peeling off the wins and just did enough at the end to top the SA Schools Rankings for 2016.

Oranje Meisies once again end the season as the leading team in South Africa and few would argue with their status as the top team on the SA Schools Rankings.

Hockey: Drag-flick King Ferreira

IT looks like SA hockey has an exceptional talent in the making in Pretoria Boys High School striker Donovan Ferreira.

There is little change on the SA Schools Top 70 Rankings for this week as the trickle of results slowly are coming to an end.

Oranje Meisies crowned off their scarcely believable season with a win over Eunice to win the Bloemfontein League Final for the 5th year in a row and underline why they rest at the top of the SA Schools Rankings for 2016.

In what has fast become one of the premier events on the Schools Hockey calendar, Oranje Meisies once again hosted the cream of SA’s hockey teams in the FNB Private Wealth Super 12 Tournament.

Hockey: 200+ for Oranje's Jana and Mika

“The playing kit with the number 200 on the back was a surprise from me. The girls didn't expect anything. It was a very emotional moment,” says Meisieskool Oranje head coach Morne Odendaal.

The Oranje Meisie’s machine rolled on with yet another win over a strong Collegiate side which leaves them as the leading team on the SA Schools Girls Rankings for this week.

Pretoria Boys High turned back the clock to produce their early season form and gain a valuable victory over high-flying Maritzburg College to shake up the SA Schools Rankings late in the season.

A successful Brothers Cape Town Tournament by St Mary’s Waverley has allowed them to close the gap marginally on Oranje Meisies which augers well for a tight finish in this year’s SA Schools Hockey Rankings for Girls.
