Hockey: St.Mary's Kloof Off to Top Schools Tournament

St Mary's Kloof U16 Hockey team have qualified to participate in the National Top Schools Tournament that will be held in Pretoria this year.

In 2013 the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Department of Education combined their efforts to setup a National Interschool’s Tournament which involved several codes and across several age groups, in an effort to give exposure to Primary School and High School pupils from grass roots right through to National level. The 2013 National Finals were held in Bloemfontein in the December holidays and saw Provincial qualifiers from all of South Africa vying to become National Champions. The event was so successful that it was decided to continue with the concept in 2014.

On Saturday 4 October the KZN Top Schools U16 Girls Hockey Tournament took place at St Johns PMB. The event was won by St Marys DSG Kloof, who beat St Johns 2 – 1 in the final. The Saints team won 4 out of 4 games on the day, scoring 14 goals and conceding 1, and have therefore qualified for the National Top Schools Tournament to be held in Pretoria in December, where they will be looking to improve on their overall 3rd place achieved in 2013.
