Hockey Match Report: Selborne v Grey College

Selborne went to Bloemfontein on the 16th May, 2014 looking for their 3rd consecutive victory over their old rivals, Grey College.

selborne college hockeyWith the normal vibrant Friday night atmosphere at the Grey Astro spurring both teams on, the match was always going to be a passionate affair. And it was an exceptionally hard-working Selborne team that came through

with a narrow 1-0 win with a goal late in the first half through a well-executed penalty corner finished by Callan Dewar.

The game kept the good crowd enthralled throughout with play swinging from end to end. Selborne had a slight edge in terms of goal-scoring opportunities, but were also called upon to defend with great resilience and determination against some dangerous Grey counter-attacks with Alex Penhall and goalkeeper John Kachoko prominent in keeping the Selborne goal intact.

This was a satisfying win for the Selborne boys and they deserved the plaudits of their enthusiastic supporters in the emotional scenes after the final whistle.
