Hoërskool Menlopark : Netball Champs!

Hoërskool Menlopark can now arguably claim to be one of the best Netball teams in Gauteng if not the country after winning the Gauteng Schools Netball Championships on Saturday which was held at Dr. EG Jansen Hoerskool.

The win follows their victories in Die Wildeklawer, Top Schools and the Pretoria City Cup tournament in this year's netball season.

The team also competed in the Tshwane League where they made a clean sweep. Menlo Park won their latest trophy thanks to a polished performance against its neighboring school, Affies.

The Parkies once in the final attacked from the outset and eventually triumphed with a 22-16 win over Affies.

Anko Pronk was once again a thorn in the flesh of Affies and repeatedly slotted the ball through the ring thanks to her unerring accuracy.

Affies's relatively young team struggled to contain Pronk and her teammate Elaine Eschberger (GA) and at half time the writing was on the wall as Menlo led 14-7.

The center Simone Weyers's attacking play helped to create space for Pronk who seized the opportunity to create space for Pronk, who gleefully  seized the opportunities to score goals at will.

According to Mr. Manuel Ferreira, Menlo Park's coach, is he, along with the entire school very proud of what his team accomplished this year.
"Every Parkies player knew exactly what was expected of her," he said.

Also Menlo Park's U17 team had an appetite for trophies after beating Affies 23-16 in their final. Once again the Parkies excellent defense coupled with their ability to take the chances to score goals was put to good use.

Affies however did enjoy some silverware and it was their U15's who beat Menlo Park and also the Affies U16 team beat Waterkloof in their final.

Waterkloof's U14 team walked away with this age group's honors after beating the Affies U14 team.

The winners will now compete later in the Northvaal Championships.
