KZN Rugby Preview: Martizburg College v Affies

The challenge for Maritzburg College could not be more daunting as they host Affies this weekend on Goldstones.

college_v_affiesOn the 28th of May the two sides met in Pretoria in what turned out to be a completely one-sided event that saw Affies running riot and hammering the Pietermaritzburg boys 55-7.

It could well be a different story this time around as College have traditionally proved to be a very tough proposition on Goldstones and with Craven Week possibly taking its toll on the teams the chances of Affies repeating their previous performance is slim.

It promises to be a physical match of the highest order with the big Affies players looking to extend their unbeaten run against the leading KZN team.

What is in College’s favour is that they have some very good players and the likes of Lwazi Sithole, who has to be one of the fastest players around, and Jesse Kriel will be looking to show the Pretorians just how good they can be. KZN Craven week player and captain Ungerer is a livewire scrummie who will hope to do what he has done all season and look to get his backline moving.

Affies are big and physical and the likes of prop Pierre Schoeman will give the front row of the visitors a tough time. Look out for the big matchup between Affies’ leftwinger Markus Klienbooi and College’s Sithole but don’t blink if they come running past or you might just miss them!

A big match played by some of the biggest players around and if Maritzburg College are going to cause an upset this is as big as it would get
