What a game! Northwood who have struggled to pick up the pieces after enduring a nightmare season in 2008 have finally fulfilled a dream that has take them over 50 years to attain, beating the traditional super power in KZN Michaelhouse!

Northwood went ahead after 3 minutes through a penalty kick by fly half Mathew Wright. 8 minutes later outside Centre Simiso Mchunu intercepted a Michaelhouse line move to score under the poles, the try was converted by  Wright to take the score to 10-0 at half time. Michaelhouse came into the 2nd half with fired up and scored a try just after half time through fullback Michael Watson to reduce the deficit to 10-5, at this stage Michaelhouse were dominating possession and territory and constant pressure lead to penalty to Michaelhouse in front of the poles which fly half Thys Albertse converted to take the score to 10-8.

Northwood never took real advantage of the stiff breeze they played with in the 2nd half and put themselves under enormous pressure by trying to run the ball from everywhere, again pressure from Michaelhouse and domination of territory and possession lead to a further penalty which Albertse converted to take the score to 10-11 to Michaelhouse.

Credit to Northwood who defended like Trojan horses and with only minutes to go they were awarded a penalty on half way, Captain Matthew Hindmarch decided to kick for the corner and set up the lineout, Northwood won the lineout and Michaelhouse infringed at the ruck and Northwood were awarded a penalty on Michaelhouse 22m, fullback Daniel de Beer calmly walked up, placed the ball and slotted home the winning kick at the death to give Northwood a 13-11 win over Michaelhouse, the first victory over Michaelhouse in the history of the school.
