Rugby Preview: College v House

Goldstones will once again host an epic match between two of the oldest rivals in KZN- Maritzburg College v Michaelhouse. Forget about where the teams are ranked this one will always bring out the very best of both sides.

college_v_houseIt is true that House have struggled this season to really play to their fullest potential. Well known for playing an expansive game of rugby they have managed to beat the lower ranked teams this year comfortably but have come horribly undone when playing stronger opposition.

DHS, Hilton and KES have all been too high a hurdle for Michaelhouse although one claim to fame they do have is that they easily beat the giant killers Northwood earlier in their season opener.

To add to their worries the House playmaker and flyhalf Lockington is not available for this match and Robert Anderson will be replacing the KZN Academy A player. Still House are certainly in with a shout and will be depending on their backline to get the ball to their wingers Margesson and Cameron Macaskill who have the ability to punch holes through the defence.

College though were thumped properly by Affies last weekend and were totally outplayed by the big Pretoria boys. They will therefore be looking at this match against Michaelhouse as a chance to regroup and get back to a winning brand of rugby.

Scrumhalf , Ungerer and winger Lwazi Sithole have both been selected from the KZN Craven Week side and there will be a great deal of reliance on these two playmakers to get College on the front foot. College are sitting on a 60% win ration so far this season and with the likes of Khumalo, Ordendaal and Dickens in the tight five, Michaelhouse could find themselves under pressure in the mauls and rucks.

A packed Goldstones on a beautiful autumn afternoon is a perfect setting for some high class rugby and it will be a huge mountain for Michaelhouse to climb if they are going to be the only team standing when the dust settles. The odds are firmly stacked against House but if you are going to beat College there is no better place to do it than on Goldstones.
