Rugby Report: Glenwood v DHS

The Big Durban Derby was played and hosted at DHS this last weekend. This historical match dates back many years and is a highlight for every old boy from the two schools.

GLENWOOD_VS_DHS1The match was played under lights Friday evening. DHS scored the first try after the Glenwood defence was broken; the DHS fullback ran in for the try but missed the conversion. That was the last time the "Horseflies" scored as the Green Machine found momentum in attack. Great running and clinical play by the Glenwood team allowed the back to have quick, front football for most of the match. DHS were penalised at the breakdowns and Siyabonga Tom did not allow the infringements to go unpunished by his boot. Tom slotted the first penalty. With the score at 3-5 exciting young back, Dylan Coulson read a DHS back attack and intercepted a pass to run 60m to go and score a great try under the poles that Siyabonga Tom converted. Glenwood took the lead with 10-5. Siyabonga Tom slotted one more penalty before half time to stretch the score to 13-5 at the break.

The second half started with Glenwood advancing all the way to the DHS try line before losing possession. The Green Machine struggled to finish some great advances on the DHS try line and credit must be given to the way the DHS team defended. Siyabonga Tom converted two more penalties to bring the final score to 19-5 in favour of Glenwood. A good turnaround after a last weekends disappointing loss. It was good to see the intensity back in the Glenwood side and the ball being moved around by the mobile pack. Well done to all involved and thank you for the support the team has enjoyed this last week.
