Rugby: Poem "The Fallow Field"

Written by  Rogan Summerton

Missing school sport? Why not put your thoughts and feelings down and share them?

          The Fallow Field

Today I saw a lush green fallow field

Where last year’s front row had kneeled

Where men had shouted for their boys

Amidst the rain, mist, sun and noise

Today I saw a field with poles white and straight

Remembered that side step, that dive by No.8

When we rose, one powerful united voice

Cheering for the team of our choice

Today I saw a grandstand empty as space

Robbed of smiles from the old boys rugged face

Not a whisper of how the game used to be played

Or how much their tight five had once weighed

Today as I walked alone on that field

Blazer on , hand on shield

I realised this game no virus will ever beat

Soon I’ll watch a match from my favourite seat
