Booishai run out winners at Interschools

Paarl Gym were aiming for a record six wins in a row when they faced Booishai in the annual Interschools at Faure Stadium. Many would have tipped Gimmies to do just that as they have had a good season and appeared the stronger side going into the match.
However Paarl Boy's High had been quietly going about their preparation and were not prepared to roll over and play dead

When the final whistle blew the scoreboard read 24-12 to Paarl Boy's High and the crowd of close on 25 000 had witnessed one of the great traditions of schoolboy rugby in the country. Most of the scoring took place in the first half which saw some ruthlessly effecient play by the Booishai backs. Wingers Lucien Cupido was unstoppable as he went over to score the first try which was followed by the other winger Curt Ruiters adding a second try for Paarl Boys High. Playing with the slight advantage of a steady wind Booishai kept the scoreboard active with some great accurate kicking from flyhalf Hauptfleish who not only was successful with a conversion and two penalties but also slotted home two well struck drop goals.  Gimmies trailed Booishai at the break 21-12 with only the boot of William van Wyk keeping them in the game with his three penalties and a drop goal.

The next 35 minutes saw Gimmies gradually getting more frustrated as time and again good ball was lost to the opposition. Booishai lock Wilhelm van der Sluys, who had enjoyed a great Craven Week, established his dominance in the lineouts and it was easy pickings for him as he repeatedly out thought his opposite number.  At the end the 12 point margin proved too great a gap for Gimmies to close and they constantly were driven back with good kicking by Siegelaar and solid defence led by number 15 Kyle Wilkinson.

24-12 and a memorable win for Booishai who will take a great deal of confidence in this win and hope that this is the start of a winning streak against Paarl Gym.
