Newlands Rugby Day: Some Great Cape Rugga

Some big rugby matches taking place this week and none more so than the ones that kick off at Newlands Rugby Day on the 30th of March.

DF Malan kicks the day off with what we are picking to be a comfortable win over Primrose RFC. DF Malan failed to hit their straps last year but will be looking forward to getting back to winning ways when they take on Primrose.

Paarl Boy’s will be next up when they take on Wynberg and this could turn out to be a major miss match unless Wynberg has managed to improve dramatically from 2010. They do have last years stars in S.Notshe (SA Schools) and Z. Malunga (WP Academy) but it might not be enough,   Boishaai were very good last year finishing in the Top 5 on the SA SchoolSport rankings and should be expected to comfortably take the honours in this one.

Perhaps one of the bigger matches is going to be the Paarl Gym v SACS games and we are expecting a very close game with SACS looking to push Gimmies all the way. However Gimmies were the second best team in the country last year and it will come as a big upset if they lose this match. But a close finish should be on the cards.

Rondebosch take on Tygerberg which should see the boys from Rondebosch having a tough time evening in the classroom. Rondebosch will be using an experimental team and they will no doubt struggle against a top 20 team. Expect to see a try feast with Tygerberg being the victors.

The Newlands Rugby Day ends off with a mouth watering clash between Bishops and Paul Roos which is a tough one to call. Bishops will be celebrating their 150 years of rugby this year and will be looking to continue their recent dominance over PRG. However for a big school Paul Roos will want to start establishing themselves as a Top 5 rugby school this year so look out for the boys from Stellenbosch proving their superiority in this one.
