Soccer: Glenwood vs Northwood Ends Controversially

Glenwood played against Northwood at Northwood for the 3rd year running on the 27th August, 2014 in a close and tense match with an controversial ending.

Glenwood vs NorthwoodThe evening kick off was accompanied by a fierce North Easterly wind which made conditions quite tricky. Playing into the wind 1st half Glenwood had a few chances one of which hit the cross bar from a great free kick. There was nothing to really seperate the two team and the  1st half finished 0-0.

In the second half Glenwood again dominated and a 40 yard strike with the wind by Phumi Ndwandwe saw the ball go over the keeper into the net for a stunning goal.

Northwood had a few chances in the game, although one strike hit the cross bar and a few went wide of the goal, but they had little to show for their efforts. However midway in the 2nd half the procedings took a dramatic twist when Northwood got a free kick at the edge of the box.

While the referee was trying to establish the 10 meter zone and was chasing the boys in the wall back, Northwood took the free kick which resulted in their striker tapping the ball into the net. The refs whistle had apparently not blown. With 2min to go there was an incident with players and the linesman and the game was called. End result Glenwood 1 Northwood 1
