Swimming: Westville Still the Team to Beat

Swimming: Westville Boys proved again why they are one of SA's most successful breeding grounds for future Olympians with another dominant display in the pool.

finish 1Already boasting the likes of Chad le Clos and Chad Ho as recent world champion swimmers, Westville are firmly entrenched at the very top of school swimming and very few schools are in a position to give them too much of a challenge at this stage.

It is probably an understatement to say that WBHS won the D&D at Kings Park last week in convincing style, because in fact the A team won every race on the programme, racking up the maximum of 260 points on offer. To the best of our knowledge, this is a feat that has never been achieved before. In the process they set six new records in the U15, U17 and Open age-groups. Clifton were in 2nd position on 203, followed by Kearsney on 201 and Glenwood A on 165. The B team were also impressive, giving the DHS A team a close run for 5th position, and finishing ahead of Northwood A, Glenwood B and DHS B.

Swimming captain Marno Langeveldt was delighted with the commitment and fine performances of every one of his swimmers, who were inspired by an enthusiastic group of more than 500 Westville boys. After success in the National Alan Burt event, the WBHS Interprovincial gala and the D&D, they now look forward to the KZN Top 8 event next week.
