Tennis: HeronBridge Tennis Tour

On the 22 of February during the mid-term, the boys and girls first tennis team went on the first ever HeronBridge Tennis tour to Mpumalanga. We stayed in Karula Hotel where we had such a stunning time.

hbWe set off on the Friday on a six hour bus trip to arrive excitedly at our destination. After quickly unpacking and taking a look at the Hotel, we all piled back on the bus to go and play Ten Pin Bowling at Riverside Mall. We played in two teams, the Aces, and the Love team. The Aces got shown how real bowling is played. We headed back to the Hotel and were rewarded after a long day with a five course meal. With full stomachs’ and weary eyes, we all met in the games room where we quickly regained some energy for some very competitive games of Table Tennis and Pool. After all being defeated by Tara and Michael, we retreated to our rooms for a very much needed rest.

The following morning started bright and early with an amazing breakfast. Arriving at our first opponent’s school, Penryn College, the twelve of us set out for the first day of tennis with sheer determination. We played doubles as well as mixed doubles. The mixed doubles were lots of fun. The girls won by 3 points.

The rest of the day was filled with lots more fun. We enjoyed a refreshing swim and headed back to the Mall where the male teachers and boys showed us what they were made of on the go karts. We ate ice cream and spent our money at the arcade. Again we had a delicious five course meal when we returned to the Hotel and spent the evening playing games and having lots of fun.

On the last day we woke up early to a rainy grey morning and started packing, unsure if we were going to be able to play tennis. We headed out to Uplands, where we swept the rain off the courts, determined to play our last matches. We played doubles, singles and mixed doubles. The girls won and unfortunately, the boys had very challenging opponents and lost, but with great sportsmanship. After everyone had had a shower and lunch at the Boarding House we returned to the bus, ready for our long trip home. It was filled with lots of sleep and a very good movie!

We all had lots of fun on this tour and enjoyed the experience touring as a mixed tennis team. All the boys, girls and teachers shared many funny and memorable moments that all contributed to great team building. We look forward to next years Tennis Tour and would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Braithwaite, and Mr. Jannekar for organizing and sharing this unforgettable tour with all of us.
